Spring is in full swing, here in the southern hemisphere, specifically north west Victoria which is where we are currently residing…
The eucalypts have been blooming for a few weeks already and all the various flowers are in full bloom in the local gardens, roses and lavender, lilacs and wisteria, geraniums and irises. It’s stunning!
The iridescent green leaves on all the trees that were bare limbed in winter, the oaks and the elms is a wonder to take in, it’s soothing to the soul, I often stand under these green giants and just breathe it in.
I love this change but part of me feels saddened that the towns have so many foreign trees that were planted to mimic the countries that the settlers arrived from, I find it so perplexing…but I’m happy to see so many native plants amongst them too.
Spring this time round feels like a fresh start, a new beginning, a yearning for things to be renewed and refreshed after the bleakness of winter and the inward spiral I went on…finally time to unfurl those tense limbs and states of being…embrace the warmth and move onwards towards the return of the sun..
Berries are starting to get cheaper and are coming into season…we even have some raspberries growing in our garden and are picking a few here and there before the birds gobble them up. And on the warmest spring days, we’ve started having a smoothie for a snack or a meal…
This raspberry one has been on rotation..and my preschooler loves it.
It’s kind of a throw together with whatever you have on hand, there is only one rule I stick by with smoothies, and that’s not to make a brown gloopy soup.
And to do this you simply need to pick the main colour you want it to be…other than brown…
For example,
~Purples, pinks, reds, (all the berries, beetroot, pitaya or dragonfruit)
~Yellow or orange (oranges and mango, nectarine, carrot)
~Green (all the leafy greens, kiwi, celery, broccoli, avo etc)
~White, (banana, pear, white peach etc)
Then make sure to add things that aren’t going to change the colour too much. Then you’re set.
I hope you’re enjoying the spring weather if in the southern hemisphere..although in some parts its feels more like summer.
Enjoy this smoothie anytime really….but the warmer weather I find is the best time for cooling foods.
