The high heat of summer feels relentless at times, especially during a heatwave, with which we have had a few in Victoria so far this summer.
It’s during these times that you need to stay super hydrated. And I often have various types of liquid on the go; herbal teas either warm or iced, lemon water, coconut water, hydralyte ice blocks, a jug of filtered water on the bench, and smoothies..
And of course when it’s so hot you may not feel like eating an actual meal, or even moving your body off the couch for that matter. I find a smoothie a great choice in the heat, one that’s full of nourishing and hydrating ingredients. And delicious too!
When the external heat is high, opting for cooling, alkalising and soothing liquids and foods is a great way to reduce heat internally.

Passionfruit is in season in the late summer months and into early autumn. And it’s such a delicious treat. My daughter has developed a taste for them and I thought what better way to add a delicious touch to a summery smoothie.
Nutritionally speaking passionfruit contains vitamin C, potassium, antioxidants and vitamin A, great for skin, immunity and hydration.

I’ve also added in an optional probiotic powder to give a little extra goodness. But omit if you don’t have on hand.
I hope the summer holidays have been kind to you and the slow return to routine is both gentle and welcomed.
Here’s the recipe
Enjoy!
