Turmeric Latte, anti-inflammatory goodness in a cup.

The days are getting cooler here in the southern hemisphere, and I’m always on the look out for hot drinks that are delicious, filled with goodness and are mostly low waste.

Turmeric lattes, also known traditionally as ‘Golden Milk’ derived from Ayurvedic medicine, have become quite popular. You can often find them at cafes or even pre-made mixes in health food stores and on supermarket shelves. But it is super easy to make yourself.

Firstly let’s talk a little about the benefits of Turmeric….

Turmeric or Curcuma longa, has been well researched for its anti inflammatory properties. These findings are from the key active compound called curcumin.

Turmeric has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years for aiding numerous ailments from digestive issues to supporting the immune system.

In more recent years Turmeric and curcumin has been researched extensively and shows tremendous benefits from reducing inflammation to aiding depression and balancing blood sugar levels.

Therefore making this satisfying, warm, spicy and delicious hot drink has many benefits to your wellbeing, along with reducing overall inflammation. So give it a go!

Low waste tips include;

~Buy spices from a package free shop either online or locally. Its quite difficult to get spices grown in Australia. Although turmeric and ginger do grow quite easily in subtropical and tropical regions. So if you can track it down in Aus, even better

~Avoid plastic packaging where possible

~Organic and fair trade spices where possible

~Use Australian made or locally made rice syrup or Maple syrup if it’s local to you.

~Make your own plant based milk (working on a recipe) or use a nutmilk base or powdered coconut milk from your local health food store or bulk food store to avoid packaging.

Now here’s the recipe, I’d love to hear how you go?
